Daughters of the Holy Spirit Family

Called to live in the Spirit of Pentecost and to share with others in His mission of love in the world.

As members of the D.H.S. Family - Sisters, Associates, Consecrated Seculars, we share the same Charism, Spirituality and Missionary thrust.

DHS Associates

The first Daughters of the Holy Spirit arrived in Aberystwyth from Brittany on 1903 and set up a convent school for girls from five to fourteen years of age with boys being able to attend the primary school classes. Then the secondary part closed and the school became St. Padarn’s Voluntary Aided School and was for most parishioners their point of contact with the Daughters of the Holy Spirit.

Following the Second Vatican Council, Religious Congregations were encouraged to share their mission and charism with the laity and the Associate Movement began and the Daughters of the Holy Spirit invited lay people in the Parish to become Associates.

Since then the Daughters of the Holy Spirit family has grown with similar Associate Groups in Devon, Luton, Abergavenny, Birmingham, Bedford, Dublin, France, United States, South America and Africa and we are in contact with them all through our Commitment and via the Internet and the LINK magazine.

Sadly in September 2013 the last of the Sisters left the area to join their congregation in Northampton so at present in Aberystwyth we meet at the home of one of the Associates on the afternoon of the third Thursday of each month. It’s a time of reflection for all of us and a focus to help us discern and find the courage to respond to what the Holy Spirit is asking us to do, as well as an opportunity to find and offer support with others in accomplishing this in whatever situation we find ourselves.

Once a year we meet up with the other British groups at an Assembly and often have a welcome visitor from elsewhere. This makes for a lively day of sharing and more importantly reflecting on our common purpose.
